To enrich the walk even further, five “giant books” line the trail and tell the thousand and one wonders of the area.

Well signposted and safe, this trail is ideal for families. Difficulty: moderate.

Enjoy your walk!

ITINERARY

Petit Pré ➔ La Seya ➔ La Grand-Garde ➔ Petit Pré

From Petit Pré, beneath the light shade of the larch trees, the trail bordered by countless flowers climbs steadily with beautiful energy. After a few efforts, it leads you to the highest point of the La Seya botanical trail (2,182 m), where the Camille Cross stands proudly. Rising like an 8-metre sentinel, it offers a breathtaking 360° panorama. It is the perfect spot to admire and identify the Muverans mountain range, the Haut de Cry and the Alps thanks to the two orientation tables. Enjoy a contemplative break on the benches awaiting you there before continuing your hike to La Grand-Garde (2,146 m), where the Mille Fleurs Botanical Trail comes to an end. The return journey follows the same route back.

WANT TO EXTEND YOUR HIKE?

From La Grand-Garde, continue your adventure along the Tour de la Seya trail via Quieu, Odonne and Ovronnaz. Alternatively, follow the signposted “Brégneux Variant” along the forest road. In the cool shade of the larch trees, continue towards Odonne before finally reaching Ovronnaz. 💡 At Brégneux: Enjoy an exceptional viewpoint over the Rhône Valley! 📸 Allow around 2 hours from La Grand-Garde to return to the chairlift departure point.

THE BELVEDERE OF MEMORY

At La Grand-Garde, a small secured lookout balcony opens onto a spectacular view. A wooden cross was erected there in 2019 in memory of three seminarians from the Écône church who lost their lives in an avalanche in 2009. In this majestic setting, the memorial transforms the end of the Mille Fleurs Botanical Trail into a place of peace and silence, overlooking the Rhône plain and facing the grand panorama of the Alpine peaks.

* These routes follow mountain trails: suitable equipment is essential. Be careful in wet weather, as some sections may be slippery.
* For the peace of wildlife and the preservation of their habitat, please keep your pets on a leash.
* Do not create new paths; follow the marked trails.
* Please do not pick the flowers.
* Zero fire 🔥: avoid any careless behaviour. The risk of fire is real.

A PROJECT OF PASSION AND SHARING

From its preparation in 2013 to its opening in 2016, and its continued development up to today (2026), the Mille Fleurs Botanical Trail has been a collective achievement led on a voluntary basis by its initiator, Marie-Jo Maillard from Dugny. This project came to life thanks to the financial support of the Municipality of Leytron, participatory donations, and the awarding of a prize. Its success is based on the close collaboration of several volunteers in the field, the municipality’s public works department, and all the people who contributed, directly or indirectly, to its creation.

AN AWARD-WINNING TRAIL

Recognised and appreciated for the exceptional beauty of its route, the trail received the “Coup de Cœur” award from Sentiers-Découverte in 2017, highlighting some of the most beautiful itineraries in Valais. Winner of the 2018 Encouragement Prize awarded by La Poste in partnership with Suisse Rando, the Mille Fleurs Botanical Trail received support of CHF 10,000. This distinction remains rare, as only six trails in Valais have received it to date (2026).

THROUGH THE MONTHS

JUNE

After a harsh winter, the June flora returns like a promise fulfilled, reclaiming its place and transforming the Mille Fleurs Botanical Trail into a magnificent natural fresco.

JULY

In the gentle warmth of summer, the subalpine flora reaches its peak and offers its most beautiful display, transforming the botanical trail into a mosaic of vibrant colours. It is the moment of glory for the trail’s 220 species, offering hikers a hanging garden between sky and earth.

AUGUST

Gradually, the flowers give way to a deeper immersion in biodiversity. Between the delicate dance of butterflies and the chirping of grasshoppers, nature comes alive within this breathtaking panorama. With a bit of luck, you may catch a glimpse of a chamois or an ibex, and perhaps even spot the flight of a golden eagle or a wallcreeper fluttering among the limestone cliffs of La Grand-Garde.

SEPTEMBER

The flora has almost completed its cycle, giving way to the splendour of the landscape: here, the warm autumn hues soften the mineral grey of the peaks, between the brilliance of a pure sky and the mystery of a sea of mist.

OCTOBER

The stars of the season, the magnificent larch trees light up the landscape and enhance the beauty of the surroundings. The hike then reveals the splendour of autumn scenery, where nature, like a true seasonal patchwork, is dressed in shades of ochre and brown, setting La Seya ablaze with gold!
