Four huts accessible for a day trip
Lui d’Août Hut
Easily accessible from the top station of the Jorasse chairlift, the Lui d’Août hut can be reached in about a half-hour walk. Just off the chairlift, the mini-zoo—an almost mandatory stop on many hikes—welcomes both young and old in a charming, pastoral setting. A few minutes away, the Larch Relax Park, nestled in a clearing surrounded by larches, invites you to unwind in nature. Hammocks, massage seats, a solar sauna, and rest areas create a peaceful retreat.
The ascent continues towards Petit-Pré before reaching the hut, built at 1,959 meters altitude between La Seya and the Grand Château.
You can enjoy a meal there or even spend the night in a cozy atmosphere right in the heart of the alpine pasture. For climbing enthusiasts, two climbing spots are located very close to the hut. If you feel like extending your walk, just retrace your steps a little and take the trail towards the summit of La Seya. In about 40 minutes, you’ll reach this spectacular viewpoint, crossed by the Mille Fleurs botanical trail.
An accessible and charming hike, perfect for a half-day getaway.
Rambert Hut
For more experienced hikers, the excursion to the Rambert hut is ideal. From the top of the Jorasse chairlift, the route leads you towards the Saille valley before beginning its big ascent. The challenge indeed gains momentum. The path climbs steadily and winds its way to the col and the Rambert hut, located at 2,580 meters altitude. This hike, which takes about 4 to 5 hours round trip, rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views: the peaks of the surrounding mountains, the Rhône valley below, and the grandeur of the Grand Muveran behind the hut.
Here too, the hut offers various meals cooked on site, as well as lodging for the night. The round trip can be done in one day, but be prepared for a more demanding route. The return can also be done via Chamosentze, passing by the alpine pasture and the Loutze snack bar before heading straight back to the resort.
Fenestral Hut
A bit more challenging than the trail leading to Lui d’Août, the Fenestral hut is a wonderful day excursion from Ovronnaz. Starting from the top of the Jorasse chairlift, the path begins gently by passing through Petit-Pré before starting a climb of about 500 meters in elevation. In just over two hours, you reach the col and the Fenestral hut, nestled at 2,453 meters altitude.
From there, the view is breathtaking: you can see the lakes of Fully, the majestic Grand Chavalard, and on clear days, all the way to the Mont Blanc massif. The name Fenestral truly makes sense here — a real window opening onto the Valais landscapes.
The hut is staffed by volunteers who will be happy to welcome you for a meal, a refreshment, or even an overnight stay if you’re up for the adventure.
The round trip can easily be done in a day. An ideal getaway for those who want to immerse themselves in the mountain scenery of our heights without spending the night.
Sorniot Hut
With slightly less elevation gain than Rambert, but still offering a fairly substantial hike, the Sorniot hut is an excellent day excursion from Ovronnaz. Also starting from the Jorasse chairlift, you’ll follow the same trail as for Lui d’Août, but extend it towards Erié. There, a gentle, almost flat path along the hillside will guide you to Sorniot Lake, then to the hut of the same name, about 3 hours after departing from Jorasse. It’s the perfect spot to take a break by the water, watch marmots, or simply enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere.
Of course, you can eat there or spend the night. The location is also popular as a starting point for the Grand Chavalard, but it is perfectly suited for a short day hike on its own. The round trip can easily be done in a day and is suitable for moderate hikers as well as those less experienced, with a manageable elevation gain.
And for just a small meal in the mountains…
For those who simply want to enjoy a good meal or a refreshing drink without going too far or getting too tired, Ovronnaz also offers lovely gourmet stops at altitude.
The first stop is easily reached by taking the chairlift up and down. The Jorasse restaurant, located at 1,940 meters altitude, serves carefully prepared local cuisine in a magnificent setting at the top of the chairlift.
The Loutze snack bar, perched at 1,721 meters altitude, charms visitors with its terrace and typically Valaisan menu: homemade tarts, cheese crusts, fondue, and refreshing drinks are all on offer. You can get there either on foot, with a short one-hour climb gaining 350 meters in elevation, or by car. The access road is paved all the way to the top.
On the other side, the alpine pasture and snack bar at Odonne, accessible in 45 minutes on foot from either the bottom or top of the chairlift, offer an idyllic setting by the forest. The self-service available anytime, let you enjoy local products in a friendly atmosphere.

Whether you’re looking for a sporting challenge, an exciting elevation gain, a simple breath of fresh air, or a delicious meal in the mountains, a multitude of possibilities await you from Ovronnaz, all accessible in a single day.
